Just installed RH 7.2
Why do the fonts on webpages shown on Netscape and Konquerer Linux browsers look so bad compared to Windows browsers.

Also just set up my HP Photosmart printer.
Using KWord the fonts look pretty nice on the screen but when I do either a print preview or print out on the printer they are sort of mushed together.
The letters are not spaced far enough to look good. I have tried selecting various fonts but they all have the same problem. (some really bad)

Do I have something set up wrong?
Is there something I can do to make my Webpages and Printed material look better?

TIA very much for any/all advice

You need to use TrueType fonts. http://www.linuxplanet.com/linuxplanet/tutorials/3163/1/

X_Console:

Thanks for the reply, can I just copy all the *.ttf files from my Win2k system?

There are alot more available this way that I can download from Microsofts Website.

TIA :)

Technically yes, you can. Copy them all to your Linux partition, and update your font directory and you should be fine. However, there are some copyright issues involved because Microsoft doesn't want people copying their fonts under operating systems other than Windows.

One way to get around this is to have your Windows partition mount during bootup and then simply create symbolic links of each of the .ttf fonts in Windows to your TrueType directory in Linux.

Which method would I recommend, obviously the legal one, but no one's going to know if you've copied them to Linux anyway.
