im using k3b and when I burn i must force it to burn even though it notice its a disc in it, and when i burn a dvd it only writes in 0.3- 0.7x when its supose to do it in 4x. what shall i do?

i did a "hdparm" and this is what i got:

# hdparm /dev/cdrom /dev/cdrom:

/dev/cdrom:
HDIO_GET_MULTCOUNT failed: Invalid argument
IO_support = 0 (default 16-bit)
unmaskirq = 0 (off)
using_dma = 1 (on)
keepsettings = 0 (off)
readonly = 1 (on)
readahead = 8 (on)
HDIO_GETGEO failed: Invalid argument

running slack 9.1 for the moment

a dude told me that i should try to change the dvd-writer driver by putting "auto" under the setting "Cdrdao driver" under "devices".

does any one know where that is?

Under devices eh? :D
I assume you are referring to in K3b itself. If you open K3b and go to settings and then Configure K3b, you can see what your drives are set at in terms of how it is configured for the Cdrdao driver. Mine is set to auto, but I don't see how you set it there. It looks more like it is showing you what it finds. It also lists your max burning speed, but will list it for CDRs and not DVDs. DVDs always burn slow.
