ive had my hd partitioned with mandrake on a small portion, and win98 on the larger portion. its only an 8gb hd anyway, so 2gb being taken up by linux is pretty annoying.i wanna format the entire hd, so i just have win98, as im getting a new pc soon. how do i remove the partitions? also, annoyingly, i cant get the bootloader anymore, so my 2gb is pretty much wasted.

any ideas? ive asked before but it didnt work/i didnt understand.

thanks

To delete the Linux partition, first go into Windows 98 and get Partition Magic 7.

When you are in partition Magic, delete all the partitions, so you will have one big (not big but the 8 gig) hard drive. ..::WARNING::.. This will erase EVERYTHING on your hard drive. Have a windows 98 boot disk, your windows CD's and DOS disks handy.

Im assuming you know how to setup your O/S's from a blank hard drive so i wont explain that. If it doesnt boot into windows after you supposevly installed windows, toss in your windows 98 boot disk and in the Command prompt, type fdisk /mbr.
This will rewrite the master boot record so it isnt trying to load Linux when it isnt there.

If not partition magic, go into dos and type fdisk, you can delete or create partitions in there.

Or just start the computer with the Windows 98 startup disk. After the computer starts you will have the option to start computer with or without CD, choose without CD. When the command prompt comes up A:> type in Fdisk. Then when you get to fdisk you will have options:

1. Create Dos Partition or logical DOS drive.
2. Set active partition.
3. Delete partition or logical DOS drive.
4. Display partition information.
5. Change current fixed disk drive.

First thing to do is choose option 4 display partition information, if your linux partition is seen then you can proceed to the next step of deleting it.

If your partition is detected by fdisk and you want to delete it: Choose option 3 then choose the partition that you want to delete. Keep your windows 98 partition if you want to keep your Windows 98 in tact.
