OpenGL

I want to start using xtraceroute, I have installed traceroute, libgtkgl, but when i run it i get a message saying "OpenGL not supported" !!.

yet i can run the mesa demo from the Mandrake 7.2 cd, and this needs OpenGL to run.

Xtraceroute installed O.K. with no dependency problems. and i can run traceroute O.K.

What do i need to run OpenGL on my box, I would have thought, with xtraceroute being on the Mandrake cd, that i wouldn't need anything, I am using ReiserFS, that shouldn't make any difference, Should it??.

no. What are your framerates in say gears?
With a Rage Fury, I get 115 fps or more at 640x480, in a window. You might be running openGL in software mode. If you get like 40 fps or less then it is likely.

What kind of video card and what version of X are you running? Most of the Mesa's I've seen shipped with distros have been software, not accelerated.
