I've a lot of friends who use Windows OS. I need to communicate with them. Then only easiest way to communicate with them is MSN messenger. I want to know if it is possible to install MSN messenger in Linux Platform. Coz, it's really needed for me. Does anybody know? Please help me.

sortof. I use Gaim to talk to people who use msn. It can do multiple protocals (AIM, MSN, ICQ, etc). missing some msn messenger features, but its nothing i miss. Redhat 9 should come with gaim/there should be a rpm available.

Do a Google search for a program called "aMSN" its a MSN messenger clone that has the same look and feel as the real thing . Worked great for me...even have some features that I wish the real MSN Messenger had.

AFAIK, Red Hat comes with Gaim bundled. Run the command "gaim" and see if it pops up. If it doesn't, then you can find it on one of your install CDs.

I would say go with aMSN too - I had major headaches trying to get Gaim to work on the MSN network under Slackware 9.1 but I downloaded aMSN and it worked 'stright out of the box'.
Nice little application to use as well!!

While on the topic of aMSN, I use it all the time; I use mandrake10.0community but.....
what I just can't seem to do is send a file. Whenever I try to send a file it sends the other party the invitation to accept and all, and then a window pops up indicating the file I am sending and an optional IP that I can change(I think). When I click ok then the file-transfer window opens but the progress-bar doesn't budge. Does anyone know how to make this work?

I had this problem as well to start with but I found that the IP address that amsn was using was the ip of the ISP's local server rather than the ip of the person that I wanted to send the file to.
Just check this with the person that you are sending the file to and that their ip address is actually the address that you're sending the file to.
