I can't seem to get this! I am trying to get kde 2.1.1 installed on my debian system. When I run apt-get install kdebase-libs, it pops up with an error message saying that I need to install libssl096 and that it is in the package database but it couldn't be installed. So, I dled ssl 0.96 and it compiled propery and everything. But, to no avail, after I searched for that specific lib, it didn't exist. Does anyone know where I can get the libssl096 package or have any ideas? Thanks a bunch...

Try:

apt-get install task-kde

Nope, that didn't work. It just gave me a list of many more broken dependencies. Any more ideas?

Are you running stable, testing or unstable? Maybe a variant of Debian? Can you post the errors? Where are you getting KDE from, unstable?

Well, I'm running potato and i'm not sure about what kde source i gave apt in sources.list. If 2.1.1 is the newest, I would think it would be stable. I think it is. Anyways, thst is how i am set up.

Is this the entry you have in your souces.list?

deb http://kde.tdyc.com/ potato kde kde2 contrib rkrusty

Libssl is in the non-us! Add this line to your apt sources:
deb http://non-us.debian.org/debian-non-US sid/non-US main non-free contrib

I don't think that kde 2.1 is in stable. So the only way to apt it would be to add an unstable source except by doing that you are probaly going to get a whole bunch of problems becasue newer stuff depends on new libraries. So don't do the above step unless you are already using unstable.
