Heard there's a option in /etc/lilo.conf that can display a picture I believe.

'man lilo' ???

If you enable the use of the frame buffer in your kernel and make some changes to your lilo settings, this can be achieved. The default picture supplied with the kernel is of a penguin (surprise!), but it is possible to change it if you're really keen. If you want to find out more, I suggest you read the frame buffer howto which can be found at http://www.linuxdoc.org

Do a search on google.com for LPP. They have some really cool boot guis that is themeable. It also does the initscripts as well.
