Check themes.org . They are not RPMs but rather they are in zipped formed.

KDE 1.1.2 or 2.X?

I had no problems using themes with 1.1.2 as you just download the file, start Theme Manager, select open and direct to where the tar.gz resides. No need to untar/gunzip first as the Theme Manager does this for you.

I've heard (at least the original KDE 2.X) did not have support for themes or they were difficult to use. Probably been fixed in the newer releases.

KDE 2.1 contains a theme-manager (in the control centre you want look'n'feel->theme manager) that you can use to install properly setup themes. It even works (so far, for me, YMMV) with KDE 1.1.2 theme files.

In order to use tarred/gzipped themes (from, for example, http://kde.themes.org ) you need to rename the xxx.tar.gz file to xxx.ktheme - then it should show up when you 'add' a new theme in the manager, and 'browse' to where the .ktheme file is.

Shame the Matrix theme slows my machine down so much ;)
