Hi, I'm new to Linux and I've discovered the beautiful Fedora Core seems almost perfect for me.

I'm having a couple of problems though, like I have no sound at all in Linux. In Windows the card works perfectly. If I go to System Settings > Soundcard Detection, the little popup helpfully reports that no card was detected.

Where do I go from here?

The card is a Gainward Hollywood@Home 7.1 PCI card. The chip it uses is an Envy24.

Note: I'm sure it is possible to use this card in Linux somehow since the LiveCD of SuSE correctly installs it and reports it as being ICE1724, Envy24HT.

Thanks for any help :(

First ensure you have PnP OS disabled in the bios as that alone can cause PCI devices to not be detected.

Does

lsmod (list loaded modules)

show any soundcard modules as being loaded?

It could be volume settings or device permissions as you can see by ALL the other soundcard not detected/working threads here at JL.
