Hello and thanks for the previous help. Right now I have a zillion questions but the biggest is not being able to launch mozilla from the menu. I downloaded and installed the newest web browser and edited the properties to launch it from the panel with the command /usr/local/mozilla/mozilla . When I tried to edit the launcher menu under internet options with the same command I get an error ( "Cannot save changes to launcher" Details: Error writing file 'applications:/Internet/redhat-web.desktop: Read-only file system . How do I change this?) Thanks for your reply.

You likely need to be root to save those changes.

I think you are correct, however, where and what do I need to edit at the terminal? Thanks

Do you happen to be using KDE or Gnome?

OK...I don't use Gnome, but I do remember it also has a menu editor. Just remove the old entry for Mozilla. Close the editor. Re-open and setup your new Mozilla entry. You do have to be root.....if I remember there are two menu steups...one for user and one for system wide. You should set it up under both.
<EDIT>Here's a link to the 1.4 menu..shouldn't be too much difference.

I cant reach any sites with the most recently updated info, but here is this from one manual:
.3.1 Adding Launchers
Adding a program launcher is the same process if you are adding it to the desktop workspace, the panel, or a menu.
To add an icon for a launcher:
* 1 Right click to display the pop-up menu for the part of the desktop:
* On the desktop, select New > Launcher.
* On the panel, select Panel > Add to Panel > Launcher.
* On the main menus, select Add New Item to this menu (available only to the root user. In each case, the Desktop entry properties window opens.
* 2 Enter the information on the Basics tab. All except Comment are required fields:
* Name: The text that displays below the icon.
* Comment: Notes about the program that appears in tool tips. Not a required field.
* Command: The file to which the launcher links.
* Type: The type of launcher. Choices are Directory and Application.
* 3 Select the icon box and choose an icon.
