I just got a Toshiba Satellite 2800 laptop and I need to get Linux running on it. I'd prefer Red Hat 6.2 because that's what the servers are running.

So far I managed to get Red Hat installed but I can't get X to run properly. I've tried everything I can think of but nothing seems to work.

When I try to run X it loads to a point where the screen is about 6 inches high and wide but the resolution is 640x480 (hugh icons in a small window).

Has anyone seen this before because I'd really appreciate some help.

Thanks,
Jason

I am no laptop expert, but these folks can probably help.

Good Luck!

quick two cents worth.

I use a Toshiba Satellite 2100CDS 400 Mhz
Laptop with 96 Megs ram and had same probs when tried to install & run Redhat 7.

Switched to Mandrake 7.2, and installed and up and running in 7 minutes. I just chose 'generic laptop display 800 x 600' from the dispaly drivers menu that pops up during install and haven't had any real probs since.
Seems much easier to configure than RedHat 7.
IMHO :)
