I have the taskbar set in gnome to auto-hide but I also want it to "stay on top" like you can do with windows taskbars. I can't figure out how to set this policy. Can anybody help me?

1. right click your panel
2. select 'panel'
3. select 'global preferences'
4. click the 'miscellaneous' tab
5. it should be somewhere in the middle of the page.
6. select keep panels above other windows
7. done

You're right... it turns out that by default, the panel is set to be below all windows. You have to uncheck the box in the "Misc" tab. Thanks for your help!
