HP Wheel Mouse

I'm using Mandrake 8.1 The problem that I have is the wheel mouse. If I select the wheel mouse instead of a standard mouse it wanders all over the screen by itself when I try to move it. Otherwise the cursor stays in the upper right hand corner. Is anyone else having problems with their PS2 HP Wheel Mouse? If so, have you found a fix.

pico /etc/X11/XF86Config

Edit the mouse area of the file... where it says

Option "Protocol" "xx" (where xx is whatever you have there)
Change it to IMPS/2 if it isn't already. If it is, then change it to "auto"... I had this problem in FreeBSD, and switching to auto made it work properly. Hope this helps.
