Gimp is the linux equivalent to photoshop, but what about illustrator? I need a good drawing program for linux, are there any?
What do you think about photoshop vs gimp. I think photoshop 6 is much better than gimp but gimp is good compared to the earlier versions.

I agree that photoshop is better. But I have fun with gimp. And give gimp some time as it develops it will only get better.

Gimp is good up until you need something for heavy professional use. For me, who only needs it to create some graphics for my web page, it's perfect. Easy to use and it has all the features I need (except .gif support.... grrrr, but I guess it's understandable.) It's also bunches faster than Photoshop.

except .gif support
gif is proprietary and carries royalties, contrary to the spirit of open source. PNG is the preferred alternative, gives smaller sizes, better quality, it's free and best of all: gives a hard time to Windows users as Iexplorer does not ( read refuses to ) support it.
I use PNG for all my uses and all complaints from IE users are just handled by a "Upgrade to Mozilla/Opera" statement.

Erm, I use IE for surfing (winmodem) and it seems to view all the pngs I put on my webpages fine.
