Hello,

I have recently started using Linus (a true newbie), and I've been trying to get my Sony DSC-S50 digital camera to work.

Can anyone help with this, do I need a particular application, or kernel setup.

Cheers for any help.

You need to tell us much more to help. What Linux are you using? Information about your computer and if the camera is USB...? Always give as much info as possible if you want help or you may be ignored. ;)

Try reading some of the guides and manuals:

PS Its Linux not Linus.

You don't need to have any special kernel config, but you do need to put your user in the group which has access to whatever device the camera uses to connect.
In my case, the camera uses the first serial port, so I added my user to the group that controls /dev/ttyS0 .

The program I use with the camera is gPhoto.
