Audio software to manillate recordings

I am looking for audio software that can speed up or slow down a recording from my cassette or cd. I also need the software to be able to separate white noise, and any other sound and be able to manipulate each individual sound. Does anyone know of audio software that is capable of doing this ?

Take a look at www.agnula.org (stands for A GNU/Linux Audio distro). The whole point of the Agnula project is to develop a whole distro centred on high quality audio work. So...

I don't know which of the individual software packages will do the job, but odds on - if the solution exists, it's probably part of the Agnula project. You'll probably have to search their website a bit though.
