Ludootje 11-25-2001, 04:31 PM as far as i know: no but you can modify them, of course if you'd like to do that, under linux-mandrake you go to the menu -> configuration -> other -> one of the 3 user managers (userconf; userdrake and usermanager or something) hope this helps. Strike 11-25-2001, 05:02 PM or you could just do passwd <username> and then change the password Ludootje 11-25-2001, 05:12 PM Originally posted by Strike: <STRONG>or you could just do passwd <username> and then change the password</STRONG> heh that's a lot easyer :) *learned something today* MrPatel 11-25-2001, 05:36 PM yeah. but. i just installed red hat 6.1 and for some reason it wont recognize my password for one of the accounts. :( Thats why i wanted to know if root can let me view the passwords. m3rlin 11-25-2001, 08:09 PM well you can do something like passwd user <new password> and see if he accepts the new password, or you can try to crack it with john ripper(not legal, but if it is your system i thing that's no problem). Ludootje 11-26-2001, 12:13 PM can't you login with those passes (on your GUI or txt-based login) or doesn't the cmd "login username" "password_username" cause I have that too on my mandrake, i can login though i can't in a shell, it will tell me my password is incorrect :/ justlinux.com
