I have thought of purchasing a AMD 64 barebones system and building another computer. But I am curious if any of you out there are using the AMD 64/Opteron with GNU/Linux and if so, what is your experience. From the research I have done, the jury still seems to be out on 64 bit. Most people will say some applications will benefit, but not most. I have a 64 bit Ultra Sparc and I don't see any benefit at all there, but of course the machine is a mind bending 167 mhz too :D

So...AMD 64 users lets here what you think of your systems.

I was just reading a story, I think it was on slashdot, where a guy did a comparison of 2.4.23 and 2.6.0 on IA64, Xeon and Opteron machines, and between the 2.6 kernel and the Opteron processor(s), that combination always won.
