Where do I go to find out what hardware is supported by a certain kernal version? :mad:

Off the top of my head I can't think of any sites, although I'm sure they exist.
What might be more important, though, would be to check the hardware compatiblility guides on the various distributor's (Redhat, Mandrake, Debian, etc.) Web sites. There's more to consider compatibility-wise than just the kernel; all distros don't ship with the same drivers, the same version of XFree86, etc., and it's a good idea to verify that the distro using or thinking of getting has been tested on your hardware.
