If you can and want to save yourself a lot of headache, buy a external serial modem. Point it to the right port and connect. Real easy. Later :D :D :D mistafeesh 01-28-2004, 09:00 AM what about ADSL modems? dalek 01-28-2004, 02:22 PM Any modem that uses ethernet should work. I would NOT get one that was USB. Some distros still have problems with USB. I would play that safe. I think all Linux distro's are fine with ethernet. The rest will depend on what distro you use. Mandrake and Redhat has a GUI config for setting up the connection once you get it connected. Some require you to change conf files. Basically you get the ethernet port up and running and then point the system to the port for the net. You may want to search for something like this and then post back if you need help. Search for, Redhat ethernet dsl. That should get you some hits on how people set up theirs in here. Later :D :D :D :D JohnT 01-28-2004, 02:32 PM A DSL modem? the application, that comes with most distro's, RPPPOE...to see if you have it, just type the command in the terminal.... adsl-setup <its a walk-through> If you live outside the US, ask your service provider what protocol they use. Then we can direct you to something else. RPPPOE is only used, AFAIK, for Point to Point Protocol Over Ethernet.. mistafeesh 01-28-2004, 05:52 PM hmm. I typed adsl-setup into the terminal, and it couldn't find it... There are some very cheap PCI ADSL modems around at the mo - a PCI speedtouch modem for £20, for eg. (I'm in the UK BTW) does that sound like a good idea, or will it need windoze? inetd 01-28-2004, 09:23 PM Sorry, what I ask is that how many modem can be added to a linux server so that all the modem can be worked together in one linux server and become a modem pool? irlandes 01-28-2004, 09:58 PM Is he perchance talking about a proxy server? Just wondering.
