Here's my problem, I have an old 600Mhz computer running Fedora Core 1, and I hate it  !! I've been talking to a guy at school and he said, if I want something fast, I should use Slackware. Here's my dilema. Can I actually isntall Slackware on the same partition as Fedora Core 1? Otherwise I'd have to delete a lot of programs I want to keep, because it took forever to get them working for me. If and when I can install Slackware onto the same partition, can I use the Mandrake partitioner (as an example) to put my /usr directory onto a seperate partition so I don't need to deal with this problem again? I'd really appreciate anyone that can help me with this problem, ANY information would be greatly appreciated!!
Cause I have no idea what to do!!
Thanks in advance,

I'm going to yell out a big, resounding, "NO" to this one.
If you install Slackware over your Fedora install, many files specific to the Fedora install will be overwritten by files specific to the Slackware install. Most every program will be broken, and you'll have no way to boot either system.
Slackware and Fedora use different versions of the same programs. Not only that, but they put their shared libraries and other programs in different locations.
Now, you can have two Linux installs on the same drive, but not the same partition. You can have multiple Linux partitions and configure a bootloader to boot between the distros.
But, keep this in mind: this is your first of many Linux installs. If you mess up your Fedora install, it's just an opportunity to learn more by starting over.

Alright thank you very much for the reply. Also, good news! After reading your post I found just enough room to make a new partition and install Slackware. I moved my impotant files onto Slackware after I mounted the Fedora partition, deleted the Fedora partition, then resized Slackware to take that space. Yay! :D
