alsa on rh9

I have compiled alsa-driver-1.0.0 as a module on RH9 to get als4000 sound card to work. I get sound when I run the sound test, but no sound from xmms or cd player. Any suggestions?

You need the xmms-alsa plugin, and you need to move the volume up on the cd portion of alsamixer or gamix. Don't forget to make the alsa plugin active in the preferences. A tip...go to http://freshrpms.net/apt/ or http://ccrma-www.stanford.edu/planetccrma/software/
and start to work with apt-get, it's a dream, it'll do all the work for you. Want Mplayer? Type "apt-get install mplayer" boom it's on your machine. Best thing since squeezable mustard.
