Is there a way to get a taskbar (i.e somewhere where minimized apps sit) in blackbox? I thought there was a patch, but I cant find it. Also, can this patch be applied to an already installed version of blackbox? I installed it from an RPM because the source packages wont work for me on Redhat 9.
Thanks

most of the time (from my limited experience at least) you have to download the source for the original code to apply patch, and then compile the original patched code.
as far as the original question, once again more limited experience, i didn't try blackbox for very long, so i don't know if you can or not (obviously by default you can't, i remember that and you wouldn't be asking otherwise), but in fluxbox you can, it actually does it by default. and frankly, i didn't like the fluxbox tabs, so i took them off and i think it behaves pretty much like blackbox now, but i can't be sure.
First of all its called a slit. It should come by default. You can install it in RH if you install the X devel. packages.
At a terminal: redhat-config-packages.
Then you should be able to install from source. Post back if you have any problems.
I dont know of any other taskbars for blackbox. Justlinux has an eyecandy thread. It shouldnt be to hard to find.
Any *box site has decent documentation.

Slit isnt a taskbar. You can't minimize an app to slit. If you can, by all means please tell me how, as in my experience, slit is only a place to put dock type apps.

The first thing to know about the slit is that it is NOT the fluxbox toolbar. If you see anyone telling anyone else that is, whack them with something painful and point them here. :)

The slit in fluxbox supports iconify, but it is not a taskbar because it doesn't show uniconified windows.
I recommend just using kicker, kicker is my favorite panel (it does so much!).
I was under the impression that a slit was something else. I use pekwm what do I know. :D
I was right about installing it though.

The _taskbar_ in fluxbox shows iconified windows. (Forget about the slit for the moment ;) )
If there are no iconified windows it shows the name of the currently focussed app, but as soon as you minimise an app, it shows them instead.
