what tools are available in linux to partition a hard drive and format that partition? something equivilant to fdisk and format in dos. thanks.

cfdisk is easier to use than the regular linux "fdisk" i think

if you are just coming from a windows environment, you might check out Ranish Partition Manager (http://www.users.intercom.com/~ranish/part/)
it will partition both linux and windows as well as many other file format/systems, at least until you get your feet wet with linux

most distros run cfdisk or fdisk or another linux varient automagically during a linux install, so you don't necessarily have to worry about this ahead of time
