I have a cd-writer and a cd-rom in my linux machine, the cd-writer is working in a emulation of scsi, but if i do copy cd from cd-rom he only detects the cd-writer as the cd-rom and the cd-writer. I think i must emulate the cd-rom as scsi, but i can't, i tried to make an append in the lilo.conf, as i did for the cd-writer, but it seams that he only accepts 1 append. How do i emulate my cd-rom??
Thanks

This is the case here as well but I haven't bothered for a long time to fix it since I rarely dublicate. I'm wondering what's the solution.

I've found an easy workaround. Ditch X-CDRoast. It sucks. Install GnomeToaster on either KDE or Gnome. It lets you add bothe CD Devices as either /dev/hdx or as the scsi-emulation thing.

Strange as I have both my cdrom and cdrw as devices in XCDRoast. All you have to do is enable scsi emulation for both devices the same you would have to do if using GnomeToaster.

in my experience with different cd burning apps you HAVE to enable scsi emulation in order for them to recognize both cdroms. post your lilo.conf and we can help you.

here is my lilo.conf:
boot = /dev/hda
vga = normal
read-only
message = /boot/greetings
prompt
timeout = 1000
append ="hdc=ide-scsi"
image = /boot/bzImage
label = linux
root = /dev/hda7
image = /boot/vmlinuz.suse
label = suse
root = /dev/hda7
other = /dev/hda1
label = dos
loader = /boot/chain.b
table = /dev/hda
Well i tryed to and another append to lilo.conf but it returns an error, so by guess is that i only accepts 1 append in linux.conf
Any help is apreciated.
Thanks :)

Hmmm, I only had to enable SCSI emulation on my CD-RW, not on my CD-ROM, and I use both perfectly and what not. Maybe you have /dev/cdrom symlinked to your cd-rw when it should be symlinked to your cd-rom.
Just a thought

Don't add another 'append ' line. Simply add to the existing one as needed. For example here is mine which enables scsi for my cd-rom, cd-rw, and internal zip drives: append=" hdc=ide-scsi hdd=ide-scsi hdg=ide-scsi".

I had tried for a long time to get both appended, and couldn't. I just started using Gnometoaster, which didn't need my CD-ROM to be recognized as SCSI, just at /dev/hdx. Reading this thread, I'm going to give it another try, as it always bothered me that I couldn't get it working.

What distro are you using?
Mandrake 8.x users must be added to the 'cdwriter' group before they can run any CD burning software.

I use suse 6.3. Im still having problems, i just put my cd-rom as hdc(master) and my cd-writer as hdc(slave), but when i run KreateCD he things that the cd-writer is the cd-rom
And i didn't change anything in lilo.conf.
And if i run the dmesg command, he only shows the cd-rom as the only scsi, my cd-writer as disapear.
What could be the problem, and can i config my lilo.conf like this:
append ="hdc1=ide-scsi hdc2=ide-scsi"
the hdc1 as cd-rom and the hdc2 as cd-writer.
Is it possible.
Thanks

Ehehe, stupidity of mine, my cd-writer can't be on hdc only in hbd,
primary master =hda
secondary slave = hdb
secundary master = hdc
secundary slave = hdb
This is correct, right??
Well any way i will try to see if it works.
Thanks for you help!!

It was a sucess, thanks for the tip jlany
:), but it's not working as i hoped, to record the cd's he still sends the data from the cd-rom to the hard-drive, and finaly for the cd-writer. My intencions whore to make a cd-copy directly, instead of sending the data for the hard-drive first.
Is there a way to do this, or a program??
But this is a good step, it's much better like this, with the cdrom working :)
If you guys now i way to make a direct copy please post.
Thanks

XCDRoast can do a direct copy of a cd though I haven't tried it myself.

My XCDRoast at home (xcdroast-0.98-0a8r5) works fine. I seem to remember upgrading XCDRoast on my work pc though it also works great. They both say alpha.

Okey, ill try it, thanks for the tip.
Do you guys think that is possible to copy the files *.vob from the dvd, and put in a normal cd, and the to be able to see in a dvd player?? Well i realy don't know the size of the file, but if is too big to fit on a cdrom, can we compress, or is this another crazy idea???
Thanks!!!

Im having problems again, i can mount my cdrom, he is on hdc, i did like this
"mount /dev/cdrom" and he returns like this
"mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/cdrom"
i tryed like "mount /dev/hdc /cdrom" and he returns "/dev/hdc: Error of input/output"
and i tryed with the optin -t iso9660 but with no efect, he realy can't mount my device, so i can't make cd copy :(
If you have an idea, please post here.
