hey guys, i tried that debian-installer beta 2, and i am impressed! i like what they did with the install. anyway, i hit a roadblock at the end. the installer tries to install lilo, but instead of listing the 'sclebo05 friendly' hda1 hda2 etc it lists something more bsd type (sorry, i dont have exactly what it says at the moment). i installed where i thought it should go and lilo installed to my mbr of my first HD. the installation guide on the debian-installer page makes no mention of how to install lilo on a partcular partition. has anyone else tried it at least?

I have tried both beta1 and beta2. But I was not successful both the cases.
I always get stuck with the base installation. I downloaded the iso images and verified it's md5sum and burnt the iso in K3b. But, both the time I get stuck while installing extra packages.
When I want to install the base packages, it get stuck in installing extra packages at 66%. It tries to download the extra packages which I can see from the blinking light of modem.
Debian installer says that the base can be installed without connecting internet. But I am confused and frustated how can I do that.
I have a usb optical mouse and new Audigy2 ZS sound card.
When I do the expert installation, I have seen it says can't modprobe usb-uhci, usbkb ctc. But is does not give any error message.

edit the lilo.conf and set root=/dev/whatever to where you want it to be and then re-run lilo...
but report a bug on it too.

sorry, haven't been on for a while, i have been changing jobs. anyway, since, i don't understand the naming scheme they used to refer to the hard disks/partitions, i will just manually edit the lilo.conf and run that. not sure there is even a bug, just seems like a bizarre naming scheme i don't understand.

It's using the /device naming scheme. You should still be able to use the old /dev/hdax names. It's backwards compatible.
For the other post, make sure your cdrom is listed to install pacages if you don't want to install them from online.

i know the regular /dev/hdx scheme, but this was different. reminded me of a freebsd style reference to harddrives and partitions.

probably the devfs scheme...
