When I'm in X, is pressing ctrl-alt-backspace a valid way to log out? I must have hotkeys, as I rarely use the mouse! I know it gets me off the system, but is there a disadvantage to doing this?

None of your current session data will be saved. I'm sure there must be a proper logout hotkey - check your window manager documentation. Ctrl-Alt-Backspace should only really be used when X crashes. [Alternatively, if you are shutting down, then simply su in a terminal and type shutdown -h now] optech 03-19-2001, 11:58 AM it doesn't log you out, but it does shutdown X and return you to the console. If you get a graphical log in screen at startup, then it will log out out. However, if you get a text log in and have to type "startx" to get into X, then it will not log you out. There has to be a hotkey for that built into you window manager or X itself...I don't realy know what it is off the top of my head though. justlinux.com
