At home I'm running Win2K. My partitions are NTFS and I have multiple people using the machine. Each person (kids) has their own logon and separte profile. This lets them use their own desktop space and keeps them out of my system (and personel) files.

I would assume that Mandrake 7.2 would afford me the same, if not better, security. I will prob be running KDE and need to find out if each user can have their own profile and desktop. In fact, this is one of the few things that has made me stick to Wincrap all these years...my knowledge of how to manipulate logons and security. While there will be a learning curve I would love to tell Bill to stick it. Thx in adavance!!

let me be the first to say that mandrake will not only be super-easy to setup for what you need, but it will be the easiest transition to linux for you and your family.

good job switching.

Yes, it will create seperate profiles for each user. desktop, home directory, etc.. And yes it is more secure than windows, but like you said, learning curve..

All that and more...
Mandrake is supposed to be painless install...I never likes it...RH installs well...but i have some reservations about stability, and I don't like the RPM package manager.
I like Slackware the best...install can be a little tricky, but not bad...

Since Linux/Unix has always been designed as a multiuser system, just create separate users (logons) for the members of your family.

Each user will have their own KDE desktop preferences and own home directory for storing files etc.
