Start here (http://www.mandrakeuser.org/docs/index.html) for some initial learning. Do all the reading you can.

To answer your questions, yes, you should update your system with new versions of your installed programs. And you will want to learn how to enable / configure the firewall (that should be) included in Mandrake.

READ READ READ and then DO - It's the best way to learn your way around

Very good advise.

Start with your distros own online documentation. You will also find that most distros install tutorials, guides, how-to's (most of the ones from www.tldp.org ), application documentation and of course the manpages (man <command>).

Have a look in

/usr/share/doc

especially

/usr/share/doc/packages

lol, I was gonna say something mean about your English, but if it's your second language that's cool. Maybe you should go back into your user preferences and enter in your location. Other people and myself love to see where people are posting from :).

Also, read this: http://www.ethernal.org/computers/Linux/hacker-howto.html
just because I don't like the word hack being used that way.
