First of all I have to say I dunno if this is in the right forum but here goes.

I am a linux noob but I had mandrake 9.2 on my comp and everything went fine. I just want to move onto something that is a bit more difficult. Just a bit. I am not a linux pro yet. I was going to go to Red Hat Linux but it's going out of business so I don't want that one. Which one would be best for me? I would like something that has tons of programs on the ISo cd when I download it. It doesn't have to be a super fast version. I like using KDE or GNOME. I would like something easy and with lots of programs. If I have to I will go back to mandrake but I would prefer something differant

Thanks

have you had a look at the which distro thread in dev/random
http://www.justlinux.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=116630
it is full of info. also do you want a binary distro or do you want to compile your software from source? and if you want to give RH a shot try out Fedora:D

That link you gave me is for "which browser"

Is Fedora going to be full of software on the ISO cd like mandrake on Redhat? Also what do you mean by "do I want a binary distro or do I want to complike my software from source" ? Does that mean do I want to install all the software by myself or would i rather have a program or the OS do it for me like when I install a RPM? If so I would rather have the OS or a program to install for me since I am new to linux

Thanks

Also 1 more thing. I am looking at ths ISO downloads and was wondering what the differance from yarrow-SRPMS-disc1.iso was to yarrow-i386-disc1.iso since those are 2 options for downloading Fedora.

Thanks

yes, fedora comes with plenty of software (just like redhat does/did). have you checked out http://fedora.redhat.com ?
you don't need the srpm discs just the regular i386 ones.

Try MEPIS. Tons of software compressed onto one iso and it runs live so you don't have to install if you don't like it.

You might want to try SuSE 9. If you don't but it the only way to install it is by ftp. You can find instructions at the SuSE site (www.suse.com). I downloaded the 9.0 tree with wget and installed it. I have bought the distribution on CD also. I have used Fedora and IMHO SuSE 9 are easy to install and use and seems to be faster than Fedora, at least on my box.

Actually 'Best Distro' threads should be posted in /dev/random where the other ones reside.
