last night i saw a linux commercial on tv for the first time. the one about the orphan boy that was adopted by everyone. well the whole time it was running all i could think of was linux (but at first i thought it was a feed the children ad) but more and more i had linux on the mind.
i did think it was a very appropriate ad for linux and its community
that prolly the most i've ever typed on this forum :)

Well , it sounds as if the commercial did its job if you were thinking of linux. :)
And what is it with all these Marines using linux? Between you and Voidinit, the Marines are taking over!:) I guess the Army got all the WinXp disks and left the Marines to fend for themselves (like always). Linux is a Marine's OS- strong, secure, and unconventional. WinXp is for the weak! :D

I don't like the new IBM Linux commercials. I prefer the old "someone stole all our servers!" bit.

hey guys I'm watching Chappelle's show on Comedy Central and he is making a parody of Kinkos (called popcopy). He is training a new employee in how to annoy the costumer and it goes like this:
" If they bring a disk you have to say is the wrong format. If thay bring mac you say that popcopy only has pc. If they bring pc you say that you need mac. If they bring both you say that popcopy only uses linux"
I didn't expect that !!

Yeah, I thought the Linux commercial was pretty impressive as well as inspirational. I especially felt proud to be a Linux user... it was touching and a little emotional.
The funny thing in my opinion are these gay Microsoft commercials in which they try to promote people and community all within this seemingly carefree, nonchalant environment sort of like the Valtrex (I think it's Valtrex, correct me if I'm wrong) HERPES commercial with the guy on the motorcycle. Just like Microsoft they try and make it seem like you too should go out contract an STD and if you don't you're not cool. In Microsoft's case, they are trying to lure you into buying their software like there are absolutely no problems with it. Who in the heck are they fooling. They would never even have those commercials if it weren't for the Linux Threat.
Peace, and sorry if I offended anyone :(

I used to fantasize about my ideal slick corporate-style LINUX commercial. It would chronicle the growth of Linux in 60 seconds, beginning with: "It started out... as homework. My slogan, which I still intend to use someday, was:
The power is yours. The Power is Linux.
The first appearance of TUX would be as a monitor reflection in the glasses of a very cute little girl, working intently at the keyboard. I would try to get Paul Newman as a spokesperson, but IBM did me one better with Muhammed Ali.
Another great ad would be a montage of happy users having fun and solving problems at their desktops and servers, over the Ramones' "Surfin Bird".
I felt the IBM ad was a personal vindication. I was especially gratified that IBM has been running it with NFL games, cause that way I know my brother, the original "Windows Republican", saw it.:p
