Hi All,

firstly, with regards to one of my earlier posts today about system lockup after upgrading to new kernel, well, I fixed it. It was so stupid, I missed this one option in xconfig about DOS partition, and the whole thing just wouldn't work w/o it.

But after getting past that, I quickly realized two other problems, one being that my ppp doesn't work. When I tried pppd, it keeps telling me something like this kernel doesn't can't run pppd because ppp suppot isn't included in kernel or something like that. But I toggled every single option in network device that has the word "ppp" as include in kernel. What am I doing wrong? In the options there were some other ppp sync something and ppp async soemthing, and I toggled those as well. And those do show up in lsmod later, but ppp was nowhere to be found. I even toggled the experimental options for ppp too, and it still didn't work. Is there something that I am missing?

Also, during bootup of my new kernel, something about NFS lockd keeps failing, why is that? That used to show up as pass before in the old kernel (or rather the one that I am running on right now, because dsl won't work w/o ppp in new kernel). Is this also related to that ppp deal? Or is this something else?

Lastly, my USB mouse (iFeel) seems to have worked in console mode with the new kernel. But I don't think it's being used in my curent x windows. What device name is my usb mouse? How do I find out? and what's the protocol?

thx a lot,

Orion-X

Did you select kernel support for ppp or did you select modules. If you selected modules the you need to load them using modprobe. Another thing you might need to upgrade your version of ppp. I had to after I upgraded my RH7 system to the 2.4.2 kernel. Hope this helps.
