I just installed staroffice6.0 on this linuxmandrake8.1, and then I wanted to launch it by typing "starTAB", though staroffice* isn't an option, in fact there's nothing of staroffice which I can launch. So, I decied to do "locate staroffice".
bash: locate: command not found
is the answer.
How is this possible? Also, does anyone know how I can start staroffice?
Thanks in advance.

I haven't used Mandrake, but the command (program) may have not been installed into your box automatically. You might want to go through the RPMs that you got with Mandrake or search for it in rpmfind (http://www.rpmfind.net/). I think Mandrake uses RPMs, right :)

Locate should be installed in /usr/bin.
Didn't StarOffice create a entry in the KDE/Gnome menus? Mine did.

But how comes that on my computer (this is my dad's one) I can use the cmd "locate"?
I'll see if rpmdrake is working here, cause on mine since mandrake8.1 nor rpmdrake nor "rpm -Uvh file.rpm" is working :(
What's the name of the "locate"-program?

First check to see if locate is actually there. It could be, but it's not in your $PATH.

hmm locate seems to work now.
staroffice didn't install like it should i think, therefore it's not in the menus (KDE menu here)
