This is probably a hard problem to fix but I am getting a default "audio not configured or etc..." message whenever I try to play any music and the speaker symbol has a slash though it. I havn't used sound on this system yet but I got a error when I booted up kde (I usually use gnome) and it said audio won't work. My friend said that it was just some stupid kde thing and it would work when I got back into gnome. But he was wrong and I am without sound. I jsut installed slackware so is there some default setup thing I have to go through or edit some file? All help appreciated Thankyou verry much!

The program 'sndconfig' always works for me. Incidentally it's easy to think it's hung when it hasn't.:)

do I need to install some program though? My sound card is part of my motherboard so that could cause some problems in detecting it. Im really new to linux and im just working on moving arround and useing stuff like getting mozilla to work since it didn't open when I typed it in terminal.

I just meant you could try installing the program 'sndconfig' and running it and, with luck, it might sort the problem. You could then uninstall it if you wanted. There will be other facilities already on your thing to attempt the same job of configuring the sound. Is there something called 'control panel' or something like that?:)
