xmms / limewire

It seems that whenever I use Limewire and then try to play an mp3 with xmms , xmms says that something is blocking my sound card or something to that effect.
even if I close limewire xmms still gives the same error
xmms works fine after login until I open limewire.

Any ideas?

If LimeWire has a media player built into it then that is why you can't use xmms at the same time. LimeWire will always be using the sound device while it is open. After you close LimeWire it might not be releasing the sound device properly. Might try checking their website to see if it says anything about this issue.

Try killing the sound server before starting xmms? For example
ps -uyourlogin artsd
and kill the process id that shows up.
