I have gotten my zip drive mounted and able to access. My printer is attached through it and I can't print anything. I don't get any errors but the printer does nothing, not even an initialization. It did do this when I mounted the zip drive however. This is my /etc/printcap file

apollo:\
:sd=/var/spool/lpd/apollo:\
:mx#0:\
:lp=/dev/lp1

I got this out of a book called Practical Linux. The printer is an Apollo p-1200. On linuxprinting .org it said this printer is partially supported. At this point I only need to print files so I don't need anyh of the "bells and whistels. What am I missing? I tried it as /dev/lp0 also. I tried

lptest > /dev/lp0(1)

and got nothing either. It does show in /proc/devices and in lsmod. Should /dev/lp0(1) be a link and if so to what?

Debian 2.2

Thanks,
Mis

Have you tried to print without the zip drive hooked up? I would give that a try.
I have a external zip drive and a Canon BJ4200 printer. I had no problems printing with the zip drive hooked up. I am also using Mandrake 7.2.

Not having a zip drive myself, but I would imagine the passthru port would be transparent to lp.

As suggested by navy-linux, try printing without the zip connected first to make sure it was working before and to rule out the zip as the cause of it not printing.

Still not working if I take it directly and not throught the zip. Tried with magicfilter also and still nothing.

try changing /dev/lp1 in your /etc/printcap file to /dev/lp0
