what the hell im i doing wrong?
i've compiled a new kernel (2.4.9)and as far as i know there were no errors at the esnd of "make dep bzimage modules modules_install"
I then copied the system.map and bzimage which I renaimed as system.map-2.4.9 and vmlinuz-2.4.9 then updated grub and restarted
the problem is that X won't start.
i get message:
X IO : fatal error 104 (connection reset by peer) on xserver
after 0 requests with 0 events remaining

what have i missed out???? :(

This is a job for ----- Googleman.

I would think you best bet would be to search Google ( www.google.com/linux (http://www.google.com/linux) ) for the error message since I have no idea what in the kernel could prevent X from starting. They should be independent of each other.

The only other problem I see is your shift key is broken and you could have a problem with 'make bzImage' (capitol 'I' in there). :)
