i've seen people talk about XCDroast for burning cd's in linux, and they usually say it's "a gui front end". my understanding is that there is background processing done by another program, but what program is that? and how do you associate the front end with the back end?

i'm retarded, help me

I am pretty sure that they are all front ends for cdrecord, and mkisofs.

they are also frontends to cd2wav and cd2mp3 or something like that.

Yes, JALU is correct.

Xcdroast will automatically use cdrecord as the back-end. No configuration is necessary.

Of course you can also use cdrecord by itself via the commandline.

'man cdrecord' tells you all.
