Is there any way to set KDE not to automatically copy text when you select it?

I have found it to be very irrirating because I normally select text to delete it and then paste something in.

Nope.

I had never thought about that in Windows people do that...

Don't worry, Linux users have a hard time rememberring to type ctrl-c and ctrl-p in windows. It's just one of the things that you get used to.

On the little clipboard icon on the taskbar, right click, and deselect enable actions.

In Konqueror, click the x beside 'Location'.

For others I used to just hold and drag with the left mouse button to highlight the address and then press delete.

Hmmm. I just tried that myself: double-clicked the URL in Netscape to highlight it, pressed the <Delete> key, and my clipboard history is still listed when I open Klipper.

Do you have any shortcuts specified for "Clear Clipboard History" in Preferences, by chance ? Or do you have the clipboard history size set to 1, and so the most recently highlighted item overwrites the previous one ?

I dunno, I'm guessing here.

what I do is press "home" then "ctrl-K."

Or in mozilla there is this really really cool feature where you can just click with your middle button and it will go to whatever URL you have in your clip board.

So if someone pastes a URL instead of creating a link you just highlight it and middle click.

This has to be one of the most annoying things in Linux.

Kdevelop does *NOT* do this. You can copy text, then select the text you want to paste over and it works just like it should. So some people are finding workarounds to this problem even if they have to be coded into the application.

It would be great if someone came up with a solution for this.

I noticed you can turn this off in Kate also. It's called "mouse autocopy" in the options. A global KDE config for this would be cool though.
