I am installing Mandrake 8.0 on a Toshiba satellite 3000 series notebook. I have obtained the RPMs for the NVIDIA drivers from the NVIDIA website, where it states that these notebooks are now better supported.

I attempted an expert install, and everything was fine. The only thing is, it uses framebuffer for the display for X, and the version of X that gets run is 3.3.6. I know Mandrake comes with 4.0.3, so how do you switch it over to 4.0.3 after the expert install?

Any help would be greately appreciated, as I wish to run some OpenGL stuff.

Thanks.

Make sure you have installed the correct XFree86 version in the Mandrake Software Manager and then open the Mandrake Control Center and select display(i think) on the left, You should be able to select Expert and switch over versions in there.

This page (http://www.littlewhitedog.com/reviews_other_00022.asp) helped me when I used to use Mandrake 8.0 :D
