A few of our LNO members have asked the same question recently though I'm not sure if they got their problem resolved.

Have you disabled any power management in the BIOS? If that doesn't help, then you may want to try here (http://www.mandrakeuser.org/index.php) to see if you can find other suggestions.

I belive you have to use setterm command to turn console blanking...see man setterm for more info.Hope this helps.

Damn the Mandrake. I have do this once again.

setterm -blank 0

but still blank screen still annoying me, and yet I double check my BIOS power management was all disable and that's why I have no ideas why Mandrake like to give me blank screen.

From what I remember, Linux (as an OS) blanks the screen after X number of minutes in order to prevent your screen from gaining a nice hole from leaving the monitor turned on too long. It really is not a power save sort of thing. Kind of like a screen saver, but not really. ;-) Did that make any sense.

In any case, this 'blank screen thing' has happened with the three distros that I've tried so far. (Slackware, Mandrake, and Caldera.) It happens in KDE, Gnome, and the console.

Well.... setterm should turn off blanking on the text consoles, and xset should turn off blanking in X, unless you have a screensaver going. If your console still blanks, it's probably your BIOS doing it.

BIOS power management all disable.
xset s off
setterm -blank 0

All done but still blank screen. Actually it is not really turn off the mon but just No Sync.

Ummm...someone in IRC told me it may be APM, any ideas? ;)

I was going to suggest shutting down APMD, but APMD should *not* be able to blank your screen unless you have APM enabled in the BIOS, so I didn't mention it. At least, I don't *think* it can.

Still, check and see if you have an "apmd" process running (ps aux | grep apmd). If you do, kill it. See if that helps.

Now, the big question: does this blanking only happen at a text console, or does it only happen in X, or does it happen in both?

OK, I haven't totally test in console. SO I will try tonight. The blank screen (No Sync. Once again the mon show a signal with No Sync message, not really a blank screen like xset) is only in X for now. :(

Starting to sound like a hardware problem to me. Anytime you get a No Sync signal on your monitor it usually is because the monitor is on and computer is off or the cable is loose or unplugged from the video output jack. If your video is coming from a card you could try to re-seat the card. Check all your cables also. Try flexing the cables near any bend points and see if the monitor flickers or goes out.
