Networking, cable modem, ...

I just installed mandrake 7.2 ...
the problems I currently have are:
a) I don't know how to put it in a network with a win2k machine
b) i don't know how to connect to the internet with my cable modem (motorola cybersurfer wave provided by telenet and connected trough usb, not trough a network card)

that cybersurfer on usb? ... dunno about support for that ..
What hardware are we using here ..
connection to the win box will be through a network card -- direct to the other card or via a hub?
ifconfig -a shows all available network connections.
man ifconfig shows the details.
ethx is an ethernet connection
pppx is a dialup conenction
I have NO idea how that usb modem will show up.
configure the ethernet interface to the windows box making sure that the ip addy and mask are in the same segment, route add -host [ipaddress of windows box] [interface]
this will let the two boxes see each other on an ip basis.
Samba to move files back and forth .. man smb.conf
man samba
man nmb
man nmb.conf

i'll see into that

but the usb modem problem remains
