Sound Fonts

Hello,
I was looking on my SBLive install disk for winxx, and found a Directory that contained sound fonts. Are these something I can use? How does the card use these, or does someother program?

They're for software midi's and some audio synthesizers. Look on SMURF (http://smurf.sourceforge.net/sfont_intro.php)
