Click to See Complete Forum and Search --> : Can I Install MDK 9.2 W/O A CD-RW??? carbon-12 12-23-2003, 09:08 PM ^^ Thanx in advance kevinatkins 12-23-2003, 09:27 PM hmm, depends what you're asking here... if you mean that you've seen some iso images, perhaps on a magazine coverdisk, then yes, you'd need to burn these images onto a cd using a cd-rw drive.. but you can also get hold of pukka cd's from a variety of sources - look out for magazine coverdisks with complete installs, or else check vendors on the internet. or it might be possible to install from other means - eg network, but i know nothing of that. Hypz 12-23-2003, 10:10 PM You can download the iso image, mount it, then copy a file called network.img to a floppy. Then reboot. Have fun. blobaugh 12-24-2003, 02:00 AM What are you saying really? You don't need an rw drive to install from the disks, just a drive that can read them. wolfhalen 12-25-2003, 05:24 AM MDK offers a net install too, you use a floppy (or two) to boot the install program. Check out the images/ directory on one of the ftp sites for more details carbon-12 12-25-2003, 07:44 PM thanx everyone. I found the floppy images and did a net install. wolfhalen 12-26-2003, 12:01 AM Great! How is it working?? carbon-12 12-26-2003, 04:31 PM Hmmm to me it seems just like MDK 9.1 but much faster and with newer packages(of course). Anyone whos using an older version of MDK should really consider upgrading, its great! wolfhalen 12-26-2003, 06:02 PM Oh, I thought you were a new linux user. Hey when you get bored with MDK, try Gentoo, it really kicks ***! carbon-12 12-26-2003, 11:42 PM Lol gentoo kicked my ***, even with GLIS(Gentoo Linux Install Script). Right now im running Slackware 9.1(main system) and am pretty happy with the performance. Im hoping they port the Anaconda installer to Gentoo like they did with Debian. Alex Cavnar, aka alc6379 12-28-2003, 11:12 PM Just so you know, I've had good luck installing Mandrake from a hard drive. Of course, you'd need a boot floppy, but basically, you can copy the contents of the Mandrake CD into a directory on either a FAT or ext2 partition. justlinux.com
