There is alot of talk bout the new 2.6 Kernel, i was thinking if it's so cool why haven't we all upgraded to it YET? So what I am asking is what do you think about the new 2.6 Kernel should I update or not yet?

If you want to be bleeding edge sure go for it. If the 2.4 is doing everything you need it to. Why change? Or do like me. I have about 5 different kernels I can choose to boot. 2 are 2.6 test kernels.

I figure that I'll upgrade eventually, but the 2.4 seems to be stable and solid for me right now.

how can you do this ?You'll want to research about your bootloader. Google for lilo or grub, which ever one you use.

If ain't broke, don't fix it... although it's not always true...

I upgraded as soon as I could, and just waited for Gentoo to get their acts together as to the nvidia driver incompatability. Everything works now, with no fuss.

if it ain't broke, you're not trying hard enough... :p

Me, i like bleeding edge, i've been running 2.6 since -test1, never had any problems with it never did with 2.4 either, but the speed improvements in 2.6 are soooooo nice!

That seems to be the concensus, we all know we can use a faster kernel. Anything you can improve the speed on is worth upgrading.

Also there are alot of more options in 2.6, for example kernel levle cryptography and kernel level MD5 checksums. Not to mention alot fo new drivers if you have recent hardware. Also any new kernel additions will only be made to 2.6(2.4 is probaly going into matience only mode soon).

If your worried about is being "buggy" then just wait a couple months and most of the bugs should be worked out. Though it must be fairly stable if it's out. I am hoping to upgrade as soon as I can.
