I guess this problem isn't really Linux specific, so I hope its OK that I post here - I am running Linux.

Sometimes when I'm using battery power on my laptop, it will go to sleep because I walked away. If I'm logged onto AIM (through GAIM), I get "ghosted" - i mean by that that other people see me as online, but I'm really not.

When this used to happen, logging on again would log off the ghosted account. But, apparently AIM now lets you be signed on from multiple locations so I can't get the ghosted account off. Any ideas?

Yeah, shut off GAIM when you leave the computer. ;)

But really though, I have no idea. I don't mean to frustrate you.

Try 'killall gaim' at a command line; i think that it was just not shut down correctly, and it's still floating around there some place in the background. But let me know if that doesnt fix it.

Some times when my isp drops my connection and gaim closes when it comes back on it tell me that i'm logged in on two different locations. It doesnt really matter much though cause your the one that is going to recieve the messages, and after a period of inactivity I believe the AIM logs you off anywho

It's been about two days and the ghosted aim account is still online and I've restarted and killed everything....

It seems to me that the only way it's going to get logged off is if someone at AIM logs it off, but there is no contact for AIM and AOL won't help me.
