All I want to do with my laptop is to run a RELIABLE OS, use StarOffice 5.2, access the internet and email (Earthlink), and share files with StarOffice 5.2 on a Win98 system.

Are there any overwhelming reasons to set up a dual boot system?

Its up to you.. Linux can do all the things you specified, so there's no need for Windows.

I agree, but wanted informed opinions before I start the process and start up the learning curve (again).

Thanks for the reply.

Well, its good to have at least one computer around with Windows on it in case you get stuck.. But after a month or two of using linux you'll find you won't need to use windows for anything.

I have a dual boot going on my system, but never log into windows anymore. I've thought about formatting that partition to use it for something else, but haven't gotten around to it yet.

Win98SE might be useful for win4lin (it runs windows INSIDE of linux, so I'm told). I'm personally looking into it to see how well it works, but I think it might be a good idea, in case for some reason you delete a partition and all your existing linux partitions get renamed and you can't boot off of them =( (i.e., this happened to me this morning, stupid)

Thanks, guys, for the comments. I appreciate it. And, as I've never yet found anything capable of protecting me from my own stupidity, I think I'll just forge ahead into the great unknown and GET THAT #######ED BUGGY GATESWARE OFF MY COMPUTER!!!!!
