Hi all!
I have made progess due to this wonderful site but still have no sound from my Sound Blaster Value!Live.
My first error on boot into KDE as user or root had to do with permission so edited the /etc/group to user:1000:29:
Now the error reads as follows:

Sound server information message:

Error while initializing the sound driver device /dev/dsp can't
be opened (no such device)

The sound server will continue using the null output device.

I do get static when I type cat /dev/urandom > /dev/dsp. I close the error and, logged in as root, I can open and run KSCD (both the application and the cdrom drive appear to be working) but no sound. Logged in as user the player says no permission or no disk in drive.
Is this still a permission problem....driver.....where else do I look.

Your help is much appreciated:)
