Please don't mind if I ask a silly question. Can we use use linux as a DNS server? if yes, then why do people use DNS servers like dynnds.org? and.. where does the DNS server get the DNS table from? sorry I'm just don't have the concept and any help which clear my confusion would be very appreciated. :p

Some thoughts: Linux is in use as likely the most popular way to provide DNS around the world. Here's why most home users don't bother. Your zone records are of no use to anyone without an upstream provider that will accept them. This is not easy (or cheap) to arrange. Although, see yi.org. You can't meet the requirements without 2 independent machines on 2 IP's. The records come from your upstream provider, without any attention from you, as your net queries for IP's. Dyndns and cousins are so much easier than trying all this, few bother. If you want to learn some useful stuff about all this, run a cacheing DNS server, they really help if you are on a modem.HTH, Ray
