I've been running RH8 on my spare box for a few weeks and today downloaded and burned Knoppix. All I can say is WOW! I wanted something that I could take with me and run on my laptop without COMMITTING and man did this work out great. I REALLY like the KDE desktop for one thing..... I mean I REALLY dig it. I played with some of the preinstalled software, like kstars for instance, and was really blown away.... Appearantly there was some wierdness with my NIC so I ran through the NIC setup program... It wouldn't accept a DHCP address for some reason so I gave it a static address.... Then after using the utility for some reason it still didn't want to use my default gw. I slapped dataz with a route add default gw x.x.x.x and whizbang! She was talking to the world! Sorry. I guess I'm just a little excited. Anyway I just wanted to say to any fellow newbies out there give the Knoppix a try AND if you're using a distro right now with GNOME installed as the default it may be worth your time to try the KDE as well.
